Question 1

How do I listen to the scanner?

Accepted Answer

Stream live audio directly on this page. Use the agency filter to narrow to a specific city or agency, then click any transmission row to play it. Enable auto-play to hear transmissions in sequence.

Question 2

Why did police go quiet in July 2026?

Accepted Answer

In July 2026, DU-COMM police channels moved to encryption on STARCOM21, making them inaccessible to the public. Fire, EMS, and Illinois State Police transmissions remain unencrypted and are captured in full. Select DU-COMM police traffic still comes through on unencrypted channels.

Question 3

What radio system does DuPage County use?

Accepted Answer

DuPage County uses the STARCOM21 P25 Phase II trunked radio system, operated statewide by the Illinois State Police. DU-COMM dispatches fire and EMS on digital P25 talkgroups across this network. Illinois State Police Troop 3 also operates on STARCOM21, covering DuPage, Kane, Cook, McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kendall, Will, and Grundy Counties.

Question 4

What are the scanner frequencies?

Accepted Answer

STARCOM21 uses a bank of UHF frequencies from 769 to 775 MHz on the DuPage County simulcast site. Transmissions hop channels dynamically — the talkgroup ID (e.g. TG 2701 for DU-COMM Fire North) is the stable identifier, not a fixed frequency.

Question 5

What does the transcript show?

Accepted Answer

Each transmission is automatically transcribed using OpenAI Whisper large-v3, an AI speech recognition model tuned for public safety terminology including 10-codes, DU-COMM unit designators, ISP callsigns, and local street names. Transcripts may contain errors on short or noisy clips.

Question 6

How far back does the archive go?

Accepted Answer

All transmissions are archived indefinitely. Use the Archive link in the header to browse by date, agency, or talkgroup. Transcripts are fully searchable across the entire archive.
